POSITION SUMMARY:
The Carpenter performs skilled construction, installation, repair, and finishing work that contributes to the safe and successful delivery of commercial construction projects. This role reads and interprets plans, measures and prepares materials, builds structural and finish components, and supports concrete, framing, and installation activities. A Carpenter upholds O-A-K’s quality and safety standards through precision craftsmanship, attention to detail, and collaboration with field leaders and trade partners.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Construction & Installation
- Perform framing, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, and concrete formwork.
- Install structural and architectural components, including walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, doors, windows, frames, and molding.
- Cut, shape, assemble, and modify wood, metal, and other materials using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Build and install temporary structures such as bracing, scaffolding, and barriers
Layout, Measurement & Material Preparation
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents to understand dimensions and materials.
- Accurately measure, mark, and prepare materials to support proper layout and efficient construction.
- Select appropriate tools, fasteners, and materials for assigned tasks.
- Assist with layout activities to ensure alignment, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
Quality Workmanship & Craft Standards
- Complete all work in alignment with O-A-K’s quality expectations, ensuring accuracy, level/plumb conditions, and clean finishing.
- Inspect assigned work areas for defects, inconsistencies, or required corrections and communicate issues promptly.
- Support punch list activities, repairs, and field adjustments to maintain high-quality outcomes.
- Document completed work and maintain thorough, organized records as needed
Safety
- Follow all O-A-K safety protocols, including PPE usage, tool safety, and adherence to site rules.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas to support safe operations and reduce risks.
- Identify potential safety concerns or equipment issues and report them immediately.
- Use tools, equipment, and materials responsibly and in accordance with safety guidelines
Excellence in Communication & Jobsite Practices
- Work collaboratively with Project Superintendents, Project Managers, and trade partners to coordinate workflows.
- Communicate progress, material needs, or challenges in a timely and professional manner.
- Support effective coordination across trades to reduce rework, maintain schedule, and ensure smooth operations.
- Interact respectfully with supervisors, peers, and subcontractors to promote a productive jobsite environment
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Routine Supervision. Work is performed under established procedures and regular oversight. Receives clear direction, priorities, and feedback to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with expectations.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES
None. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and does not provide oversight or direction to other employees.
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Carpentry certification or completion of a trade apprenticeship preferred.
- Hands-on experience with commercial carpentry materials, methods, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and construction plans.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and measurement devices.
- Strong basic math skills for measurement, layout, and material calculations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
