Experienced Early Childhood Educator — Float Teacher
Clever Cubs Preschool Academy
Cranston, SE Calgary
Monday to Friday | 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Full-time, permanent position
Start date: Immediately
About Clever Cubs
Clever Cubs Preschool Academy is a full-day preschool serving children approximately 2.5 to 5 years old. We are not a traditional daycare. We provide a thoughtful, engaging preschool experience grounded in inquiry, relationships, exploration and respect for childhood.
Our classrooms are calm, welcoming and intentionally organized. Children are viewed as capable, curious learners, and our educators are expected to engage meaningfully with them, not simply supervise them. We value professionalism, reliability, initiative and genuine care for children and families.
We maintain high standards for our programming, our learning environments and the cleanliness of our centre. We are looking for an experienced educator who takes pride in meeting those standards.
About the Position
We are hiring a full-time Float Teacher who will work throughout the centre rather than remain in one classroom.
This is a highly active and essential position. The Float Teacher supports both our Bear Cubs and Lion Cubs classrooms, covers educator breaks, assists during busy transitions, helps children who need additional support and ensures that cleaning and sanitizing responsibilities are completed thoroughly and on schedule.
The right candidate will be flexible, observant and able to recognize what needs to be done without waiting for continual direction. Some parts of the day will be spent actively engaging with children, while other parts will involve substantial cleaning, sanitizing, laundry, organization and classroom reset tasks.
Please apply only if you are comfortable with significant daily cleaning as a core responsibility of the position.
Key Responsibilities, Classroom and Child Support
- Move confidently between classrooms according to the needs of the centre.
- Cover educator breaks and temporarily assume responsibility for a classroom group.
- Build warm, respectful relationships with children, families and colleagues.
- Engage children in meaningful conversations, play, inquiry and learning experiences.
- Support classroom routines, including arrivals, meals, transitions, outdoor play, rest periods and departures.
- Help children develop independence, confidence, self-regulation and positive social skills.
- Respond calmly and professionally to challenging behaviours or changing classroom needs.
- Assist children with toileting, clothing changes and occasional accidents when required.
- Maintain active supervision and follow all licensing, health and safety requirements.
- Communicate professionally and warmly with families during arrival and dismissal.
Cleaning and Centre Maintenance
A substantial portion of each shift will involve cleaning and sanitizing. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Following a detailed daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule.
- Cleaning and sanitizing tables, chairs, shelves, learning materials and high-touch surfaces.
- Cleaning washrooms and toileting areas thoroughly.
- Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping classroom and common-area floors.
- Completing preschool laundry, including bedding, cloths and other washable materials.
- Cleaning and resetting eating areas before and after meals and snacks.
- Washing and sanitizing toys and classroom materials.
- Emptying garbage and disposing of waste appropriately.
- Restocking washrooms, classrooms and cleaning supplies.
- Maintaining organized storage, supply and laundry areas.
- Resetting classrooms so they remain calm, attractive and ready for children.
- Noticing and addressing cleanliness concerns without needing to be asked.
- Completing cleaning records accurately and consistently.
The Person We Are Looking For
You may be an excellent fit if you:
- Are an experienced Early Childhood Educator who genuinely enjoys children and families.
- Are dependable and understand that consistent attendance is essential in childcare.
- Can adapt quickly when classroom needs or daily priorities change.
- Take initiative and do not need constant reminders or supervision.
- Are equally willing to lead a group of children, support a colleague, clean a washroom or reset a classroom.
- Work with purpose and maintain a steady pace throughout the day.
- Notice details and take pride in exceptionally clean, organized environments.
- Remain calm, warm and professional during busy or demanding moments.
- Communicate clearly and contribute positively to a collaborative team.
- Understand that a premium centre requires consistently high standards, not only when someone is watching.
